Heraklion

The prefecture of Heraklion is the largest prefecture in Crete with the richest archeological interest. Home of the world renowned palaces of Knossos and Phaestos as well of the Archeological Museum of Heraklion featuring exhibits of the Minoan civilization the city of Heraklion is the perfect starting point to explore the wonders of the enchanting island of Crete. Situated amidst the prefectures of Lassithi and Rethymno Heraklion is a city that boasts many attractions.

Some of the sights worth visiting are the Koules Fortress, the Caves of Matala, the ancient site of Gortyna as well as the stunningly beautiful towns and beaches of Hersonissos and Malia. Besides Hersonissos and Malia Heraklio is filled with sweeping sand beaches such as the beaches of Matala, Amoudara, Amnissos, Tymbaki, Stalida, Agia Pelagia embraced by the pristine landscape and the unspoiled country side.

Hania

Quiet a fairy-like settlement with unfading charm the picturesque town of Chania reflects the splendor and ambiance of a bygone era. Influenced by the Venetian rule of its past the enchanting town of Chania lures guests with its mystical beauty, the striking beaches, the picturesque villages, the elegantly preserved mansions and traditional houses, the pristine landscapes and the dramatic gorges such as the famous gorge of Samaria.

Travelers visiting Chania will enjoy visiting the quaint villages of Kissamos, Sfakia and Paleochora and swim at some of Crete’s most gorgeous beaches such as Elafonisi, Balos, Falassarna, Platanias. Sitia

Dominated by a Venetian fort the scenic sun kissed town of Sitia with its small port in the prefecture of Lasithi exudes an air of historical grandeur. Worth visiting in the picturesque town of Sitia are the church of the Analipsis of the Sotira and the archeological and laographical museums, the ruins of the ancient city of Pressos as well as the monasteries of Faneromeni and Toplou.
